Scope LG Dual Inverter single split, indoor head, condenser, pipework

The Brief

The customer wanted one room brought under control. It was unusable in the afternoon through the summer and cold enough first thing in the winter that the central heating was being fired for a single room. A wall-mounted split system solves both of those at once, which is why it was the right answer rather than a fan and a plug-in heater.

The practical constraints were where the outdoor condenser could sit without being under a bedroom window or against the neighbour's boundary, and how far the pipework had to travel to get there.

What We Did

The work covered:

  • Sized the system to the room: Measured the space and worked out the load rather than picking a unit off a list, so it is not left straining on the hottest afternoon or short-cycling on a mild one.
  • Sited the condenser: Set on the flat roof over the single-storey section, which keeps it off the ground, away from the boundary and out of the way, and mounted on anti-vibration feet so nothing carries into the structure.
  • Core-drilled and ran the pipework: Insulated refrigerant lines, the electrical supply and the condensate drain all run on the shortest sensible route and finished neatly.
  • Mounted the indoor head: Set on the wall so the airflow crosses the room rather than blowing straight at where people sit.
  • Pressure tested and evacuated: The pipework was pressure tested and vacuumed before any refrigerant went into it. This is the step that gets skipped on a cheap install and it is the usual reason a system loses its charge later.
  • Commissioned and handed over: Operating pressures checked, heating and cooling modes both run, and the customer shown how to use it so it is not left running on a timer in an empty house.

The Result

A room that is comfortable in July and warm in November, on a system that costs a fraction of an electric heater to run because it is a heat pump rather than a resistance element. The condenser sits on the flat roof on anti-vibration mounts, so nothing carries into the structure or over the boundary.

The annual check is on our reminder list. Filters, refrigerant charge, condensate drain and the outdoor coil, which is what keeps the running cost down and the warranty intact.

Job duration: One day on site, from first fix to commissioning and handover.
